Future-ready sportswear materials

Sustainable and highly performant rubber

Our sustainable material

Our first material is a revolutionary plant-based rubber, an alternative to neoprene. Traditional materials, especially neoprene, rely on petroleum or limestone and contribute significantly to environmental degradation.

Highly performant

We don't want brands to choose between sustainability or performance. Our mission is to develop cutting-edge materials that push the industry to innovate on performance. We guarantee our materials at least match the performance of traditional petroleum-based materials, if not exceed them.

Customer-focused

We won’t stop innovating until athletes say, “This is the most comfortable thing I’ve ever used.” Our vision is to transform the relationship athletes have with their gear, from cold and stiff, to something that’s truly delightful. No more cringing at the thought of pulling on a damp wetsuit from the day before.

Applications for the materials

Our material is highly versatile, combining superior flexibility with sustainable performance. While our current focus is on sports applications such as wetsuits, yoga mats, and bags, its potential extends far beyond. We’re always open to exploring new opportunities and partnering on innovative applications.

Our founding story

We grew up in the water — surfing, sailing, racing triathlons, and diving — all sports where wetsuits are essential. But over time, we became increasingly disappointed with the limits of conventional wetsuit materials. Even top-tier gear relied on outdated materials made from petroleum or limestone and packed with industrial chemicals.

Curious and concerned, we took a closer look at what wetsuits are really made of — and what we found confirmed our concerns. Most wetsuits are built from petroleum- or limestone-based neoprene, reinforced with carbon black, a material made from ground-up tires, mixed with harmful chemicals.

That moment changed everything. We founded Billoba to build a better alternative. A new generation of high-performance, innovative materials that outperform traditional neoprene and drastically reduce environmental impact. No more compromises between performance and sustainability. And no more 50-year-old materials holding back innovation in sportswear.

Partners and supporters

We are currently developing our first product to go-to market. We are based out of Switzerland which has a culture of athleticism and brands with a reputation of quality. We are happy to be part of the growing ecosystem here for innovation in sports.
We are especially grateful for the support from three organizations in Switzerland: ZHAW, Venture Kick and InnoSuisse.
